Our mares foal outside and raise their babies in the same pastures.  They  run with the stallion from March till late summer.  We handle each foal for an hour or so at birth and teach them to lead the first week.  After that, we handle them as time permits and they learn to be horses.  They  cross creeks, drink from ponds, and negotiate obstacles in the herd.  We feed minerals, salt, and a small amount of corn/oat mixture.  We do not keep our horses inside.

We took Awesome out of the broodmare herd in late September 2008.  We weaned the babies in October and wormed them a couple of weeks later.  They are doing well in their pasture with good hay and a small amount of corn/oat mixture twice a day.  Four of the babies and a yearling, went to Canada to start an Awesome Cougarand champagne working quarter horse line up north.

We believe that coming as close to the way nature intended horses to live, is the best way to grow good minds and spirits in the foals and mares.
